IS FELLINI REALLY DEAD?

Rome's a million years of tourists standing in a line ahead
And a misplaced observation of an American dressed in red
And countless expectations of what was really said
And the sad stark realization that Fellini's really dead

Pizzerias filled with color from the smoky black and white
And the cobblestones are counting cars gearing up to fight
There's a wave of immigration that is threatening the West
But the weather doesn't matter if Fellini's really dead

Our youthful conversations kept us speeded up till dawn
In rightful indignation how to change a world gone wrong
You can blame it on the government no matter which side you're on
It all seems so ridiculous now that Fellini's gone

There's an orange Roman color, a shade of old burnt brick
They're running cars at the Circus Maximus
But the magician's not doing his tricks
And a lonesome population is struggling in its grip
That they've been left behind this time on Fellini's last trip

It's a language full of music chronic explanations say
All the chariots are rusted in a relic kind of way
But the world don't wear a wristwatch
To encase its timeless tick
Are the Egyptian cameras rolling tonight?
As Fellini goes up the Styx

Nights like this are luxury there are five stars overhead
The rhythm of the footsteps they follow me though I feel led
Me I'm standing perfectly still...
And just holding my breath
And wondering if Rome exists after Fellini's death
